The granular texture is due to the tiny pieces of cartilage in the leather, which offers durability in the everyday use of the wallet. Sharkskin is made up of a leather half (the epidermis) and a mineral or ivory half (the dermis). More rare and more expensive is sharkskin with a central pearl. Indeed, there is only one central pearl on sharkskin (the small white circle at the centre of each skin). It is therefore possible to make several items from a single skin, but only one with such a coveted central pearl. Leather goods made from genuine sharkskin require no certification, which makes sending them anywhere in the world much easier and quicker, with no problems when clearing customs.
